Hi everyone. Tina Conca here and I want to share some really exciting news about a new specialized program I am developing for Conca Sport and Fitness. It’s called THE CORE at CSF – Women’s Wellness Training.
We are getting ready to launch this program in early Spring but I wanted to give you a sneak peek into what’s coming and why.
The Why
Experience and Passion
I am a Certified pelvic rehab practitioner ? that means I am a clinical physical therapist who specializes in women?s wellness and rehabilitation. I am also a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
With over 25 years of clinical experience with thousands of women allowing me to be part of their health and wellness journey, I have seen hands-on how our pelvic floor changes with age, with pregnancy, with childbirth, with surgeries such as hysterectomies, cancer treatments, with peri-menopausal hormonal fluctuations. AND, I see the resulting dysfunctions that are common across the lifespan. Things like leakage or incontinence, pain, constipation, core weakness, and the list goes on. I see these diagnoses every day in the clinic and help women every day gain more control over their health and function.
I am also a mom of 3 beautiful children. I was a collegiate athlete and now I am an active sideline mom for more teams than I can count. Having just celebrated the big 50, I am a woman who is dipping my toe into the peri-menopausal world. Truth be told, I?m am also selfish! I am demanding. I want answers and solutions as I mature. I am just as interested in women?s wellness and fitness as you are. Not just for myself, but for my daughters, my sister, my mom and for the whole tribe of women in my life.
Necessity
If not us then who? Why now? A physiotherapist mentor of mine, Michelle Lyons often says Women are not just little men. I love this saying. We are wonderfully complicated and ever-changing. Let?s embrace this and recognize that our bodies need different things throughout our decades.
The most common questions I get are:
- Is pelvic floor training really a thing?
- Am I doing more harm than good by exercIsing?
- What is causing my symptoms?
My Answers:
1.YES
2.POSSIBLY – THAT’S WHY WE’RE HERE
3. WE’LL FIGURE IT OUT TOGETHER
CSF has been committed to adult wellness for 10 years now. I have been committed to specialized care for women for decades. The timing to pair these forces couldn’t be better. Women are justly seeking out answers. Advocating for themselves. We all need help along the way to ask the right questions.
I have traveled across the country and overseas to see what the rest of the world is doing for pelvic floor training and women?s fitness and I can tell you the wave of advocacy, ownership and awareness is just beginning in the US! Let?s face it no one wants to wear pads if they don’t have to. No one wants to be worried that they will experience an embarrassing accident. And no one wants to be in chronic pain every day.
Bridge The Gap
Or more accurately, I am rowing a boat to the other side. From clinical care to our training facility, I am developing The Core at CSF for the sole purpose of getting to the heart of women’s? wellness training. Getting to THE CORE, if you will, of a purposeful focus on our pelvic floors and core function.
The greatest reward in helping women is diving deep and finding connections with them about past orthopedic issues, gut health, maternal history/ wellness, gynecology history/ hormonal changes, stress and nutrition, breath control, etc.
This is the essence of THE CORE program ? it?s simple yet deep. Make things simple to understand, relatable, motivational but deep enough to get to the foundations of mobility and function for women with some level of DYS-FUNCTION.
Specialized Fitness training that will focus on body awareness, core and pelvic floor engagement, breath control, and mindful progression. Moving from dysfunction to function. And, along the way, I always like to have a little FUN! Demystifying the basic anatomy and physiology of how our bodies work and change. Let’s face it some of these topics seem taboo. But for all who know me, there must be laughter! We can?t talk about all this stuff without a healthy dose of reality, self-esteem and a good laugh.
The two phases of Women’s Wellness at CSF will be
The Postpartum + Perimenopausal Phase
